And then there was one.

On Friday morning there were two hummingbirds in our nest and they looked about as big as the mother was. On Friday evening there was only one left. Either the bigger one flew away or it was eaten by Seven. I'm thinking that he flew away - I didn't see any evidence of a bird slaughter. My babies are leaving me. :)

Awww. Already getting that nesting feeling...literally :)

Hey, I thought hummingbirds were pretty. Why is this one gray? Not that gray is ugly or that your babies aren't absolutely perfect (and much more advanced than all the other hummingbirds), but I was just curious.

I think they're just young and not quite done getting their feathers. I think the boys will be prettier than girls also - a bit more red. The mom seemed to be green and not quite as bright as the boys.

I'm sure that one just flew away and wasn't eaten! It's good to know they did so well. As for the color as with all birds the males are always the prettiest with all the color but they could still be boys who haven't gotten their adult feathers yet. I hope that they are both girls and return to nest in the same place!

don't worry about them leaving. you will have your own baby soon enough to keep your hands full.
