The Rat Dilemma

The decision on the rat was made for me. I came home and the gardener had come by to mow the yard and had dumped the grass in that trash can. It made me feel a little better, since I suppose that would have finished him off if he wasn't dead already.

Great! Not only did you dump him like common trash next to his dead friend, but you left him to be smothered by the gardener's clippings. I hope you feel good about yourself.

Love You! Hugs and Kisses :)

I remember once having to kill a bird that the cats had gotten when you were small. I remember I thought that it would be quick to put him in a jar and fill it with water so that he would quickly drown. What a mistake the poor little thing fought for his life for a long time and I ended up sobbing for almost an hour. I won't kill anything anymore even though I talk tough. One day a squirrel had been hit by a car on the road and he managed to drag himself over to our feeders to try to get a drink of water. I cried so long that Jim came in the house got out his gun and put him down. Some people just can't do that sort of thing.
I think the freezer thing sounded more humane but I wouldn't want anything like that in my freezer. The best thing I do now is just turn away and let nature take it's course, cause it would just cause more pain and fear even if you try to help a wild animal that is going to die anyway.

Wow, Mom, that's a couple of really sad stories, but it does give me a lesson. And I'm glad I didn't kill it myself. I just couldn't bring myself to do it anyway.
